Purpose: Plot Based Inventory (PBI) is a new system of forest stand inventory and information system used by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to inventory acres managed and administered by the State. The update of this survey will provide more accurate data for forest managers and private landowners. Coinciding with a collection of aerial Lidar, these plots act as ground truth locations and when modeled with the Lidar data, to produce a wall-to-wall inventory database. Nature of fieldwork: Fieldwork requires navigating to pre-determined plot locations to collect tree measurements on a fixedarea plot. This is to be completed by: 1) Establish a 1/10th acre fixed area plot. Measure and monument all trees 5 inches DBH and greater, as well as canopy cover measurements and regeneration information on the plot. 2) Collect a highly accurate GPS measurement at plot center. Data is recorded on an electronic tablet, verified for completeness and submitted. Objective: The Contractor agrees to furnish all labor, materials, transportation, equipment, and incidentals except Department of Natural Resources (DNR) furnished property, to monument and measure PBI inventory plots located by DNR provided GPS coordinates. The Contractor agrees to monument and measure PBI plots in accordance with the instructions contained in the contract specifications, PBI manual, and contractor supplement specifications.
