Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Department of Natural Resources is seeking bids for prescribed rotational goat grazing on 21 acres in Myre-Big Island State Park to reduce the density of woody shrubs in oak savanna and oak woodland communities. The project is located approximately 0.5-mile east of the park office and is accessible from the paved Blazing Star State Trail, which bounds the northern edge of the project site (T102N, R21W, Section 13). See attached project map for approximate size and location of paddocks. The project involves grazing two adjacent paddocks. The total project area is 21 acres split between the 2 paddocks. Paddock 1 includes oak savanna and oak woodland with moderate to high density buckthorn saplings, with most stems being ≤1-inch diameter. Paddock 2 is also best characterized as oak savanna and oak woodland with dense buckthorn, however, this paddock was forestry mowed/mulched during the winter of 2022, so targeted vegetation in paddock 2 will consist mainly of stump sprouts. Both paddocks have good access via hiking trails and a truck and trailer should be able to readily access the northern edge of the project site from the Blazing Star State Trail. Two small wetlands totaling approximately 3.8-acres in size are located between the paddocks but are not included in the grazing area acreage estimate.
