Design Scope #1 – CCRB Equipment Replacement • Replace existing equipment and address deferred maintenance within Cancer & Cardiovascular Research Building (CCRB) cage wash areas to meet facility throughput requirements. • Improve design of pneumatic cage waste disposal system CCRB and WMBB (Wallin Medical Biosciences Building) facilities. Existing system does not allow for concurrent use of equipment and frequently becomes clogged with waste. Within CCRB, the waste disposal system’s piping is deteriorating, creating a hazard and maintenance issues. • Improve design and functionality of existing shared automatic bedding dispenser to ensure reliable use within both facilities. • Investigate causes of frequent equipment failures, particularly the autoclaves, bedding dispensing and waste systems. Design Scope #2 – CCRB System Upgrade and WMBB Consolidation • Investigate potential to upsize or add equipment, improve layout and integrate automation to increase total facility throughput from ~6,000 to 10,000 cages per week to allow for consolidation of WMBB cage wash space into CCRB footprint o Facilities located immediately adjacent to one another on first floor of WMBB and CCRB along East-West interior wall.
