• Examine and account for site conditions. i. Climate considerations: Freeze-thaw cycles and soil movement typical of Minneapolis will be considered in repair planning and materials selection. ii. Existing conditions: Concrete steps are exhibiting vertical and/or lateral displacement due to soil settlement, poor compaction, or drainage issues. iii. Accessibility and client needs: Work with the Project Manager to determine goals for the project and what’s needed to complete the work to fit the client’s needs. • Clear the area around the work site to provide access and ensure safety. Barricade or mark off work area to protect pedestrians and workers during installation. 2. Materials • Rebar: #4 rebar (or as required), minimum 6" O.C. grid where applicable. 5 • Polyurethane foam to be closed-cell, moisture-resistant, and rated for load-bearing applications. 3. Repair Options • Polyurethane foam injection – moderate or extreme settling i. Identify and mark affected areas of separating, cracking, or sloping. ii. Strategically drill holes into the concrete, ensuring minimal disruption to the surface and visible areas. iii. Install injection ports into the drilled holes. iv. Inject polyurethane mixture into the ports. Closely monitor expansion to ensure the concrete is lifted uniformly and to the desired level. The lifted concrete must align with the surrounding concrete. v. Seal the drilled holes. • Epoxy or rebar reinforcement – minimal settling i. Identify and mark affected areas of separating, cracking, or sloping. ii. Insert steel or rebar reinforcements into the foundation to reconnect the steps to the home. iii. Inject or apply epoxy or specialized grout to cracks. 4. Quality Assurance and Cleanup • Inspect and test steps for structural integrity and alignment. • Clean work area, removing debris, tools, and excess materials. • Dispose of waste materials in accordance with local regulations. • Conduct a walkthrough with the client or Project Manager to verify satisfaction. 5. Documentation • Provide any documentation including product specifications, warranty information, and installation reports to the property owner.
