The core purpose of this project is to develop an American Indian Cultural Landscape Study (AICLS) that’s deeply rooted and shaped by authentic experiences, expertise, and stories of American Indian tribal members and communities. The AICLS will serve as a guiding and actionable framework. It will be used to inform improvement of core functions of Washington County Parks, including but not limited to: • Messaging plans for significant archeological and cultural sites where appropriate and applicable. • Influence the outreach approach for park and trail long range plans. • Integrate Indigenous stewardship methods and traditional ecological knowledge into existing land stewardship efforts. • Guidance on the development and delivery of American Indian and county led programing opportunities (i.e. language, land-based healing, environmental education and stewardship, cultural continuity). • Preservation or protection plans for significant archeological and cultural sites. • Design and implementation guidance for park and trail capital improvement projects.
