Specifications include, but are not limited to: Provide ten (10) college preparatory class sessions for the youth involved to be held at the school’s location at a minimum of five hours each class on consecutive weeks. The program’s overall goals are to help transition youth to young adulthood through preparation for college and vocational programming by: Improving the youth’s scholastic preparation for enrollment into institutions of higher learning through college readiness activities. Providing hands-on experience of the college selection and financial aid processes, to include exposure to experiential education, and individual and group work. Assisting the youth to set realistic educational and post-secondary goals, and engaging the student in their own college planning, search and admission processes. Provide a class schedule, and a curriculum that shall: Help the youth develop a comprehensive understanding, preparation for academic requirements of the Michigan Merit Program and College Board entry process, the American College Testing (ACT), and SAT. This shall also include practice with the Explore and Plan components of ACT, and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Reasoning Test. Demonstrate effective study habits and identify resources that promote high school success at each respective grade level. Class activities shall include practice in writing college entrance essays, and navigating the college application and enrollment process.
