Specifications include, but are not limited to: Service Occurrences. Snow and ice removal will be considered as both “automatic” and “on-call”. Pushing or removing accumulated snow will be “on-call” only. Automatic Services. The Contractor must perform snow removal services when snowfalls of two (2) inches or more occur. The Contractor must perform ice removal services along with snow removal when snowfalls of two (2) inches or more occur. In addition, automatic ice removal services must be performed when snowfall of less than 2” occur or icy conditions (without snowfall) exist. The Contractor shall utilize best judgment when applying deicer in order to prevent slip and fall accidents and ensure the safety and security of the public and employees. All automatic services must be completed prior to 7:00 a.m. including weekends and holidays. On-call Services. The Program Manager or authorized designee will contact the Contractor to request on-call services as needed. The Contractor must be onsite to perform on-call snow and/or ice removal services within two (2) hours of initial contact by the Program Manager or authorized designee. On-call pushing or relocating accumulated snow must be performed within two (2) hours of request by the Program Manager or authorized designee. Snow Removal. Snow must be plowed from all driving areas and must be cleared from roadway entrances and exits to MDOT property driveways to maintain clear vision onto roadway. Snow must be removed/plowed from parking lots so that all parking spaces are continuously available. Snow must be removed from all sidewalks, walkways, ramps, stairs, and building entrances. Use of ATV/UTV with plow is acceptable for use on the Bagley Pedestrian Bridge and walkways that are wide enough to accommodate the plow. Otherwise, use of snow blower and/or shovel is required. Ice Removal. The Contractor must provide and spread deicer on each service occasion. Contractor provided ice-melt material must be approved by the Program Manager. Rock salt or ice-melt material will be used on parking lots and driving areas. Ice-melt material must be used on sidewalks, walkways, ramps, stairs, and building entrances.
