Snow Clearing Services – Downtown Sidewalks and Kiosk Areas and City Hall Sidewalks; 1. The contractor is required to provide a statement of qualifications and experience. 2. The work will involve snow clearing when accumulation reaches a depth of 1” or more, whether such accumulation is the result of a snowfall event, wind blowing, and/or street clearing that deposits accumulation at the intersections. 3. The contractor will be responsible for providing the labor and equipment necessary to perform the work. 4. Snow clearing from an overnight snowfall must be completed prior to 8:00am, although snowfall later in the day is expected to be cleared as soon as possible. 5. A six (6) foot minimum path must be maintained on sidewalks and through kiosks, as well as on the crosswalks. In the earlier snow months, a wider clearing is both possible and expected. 6. Prevention of ice buildup and removal of ice is required. The contractor will apply salt and/or sand as directed by the City to ensure safe pedestrian movement. 7. The contractor will be responsible for regularly coordinating with the Street Department for the clearing of intersections, sidewalks and kiosk areas after the City plows the streets. 8. All work to be accomplished must be done in a manner so as not to damage the brick pavers, the kiosks, the decorative lights, trees, or other street improvements. 9. The contractor shall provide a listing of all equipment proposed to be used in the snow clearing and snow removal work as part of the proposal. 10. Proposals shall be submitted on a “snow clearing event” rate for snow clearing. A “snow clearing event” is a single complete clearing of sidewalks, intersections, and passes through the kiosks to the specifications listed above. Based on snowfall conditions, there may be more than one “snow clearing event” on a particular day. The proposal shall include a not-to-exceed cost for each season. Please submit a breakdown of costs for the 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28 winter seasons. The contractor must use the attached form for bidding purposes. 11. The contractor shall describe in their proposal how they will approach snow clearing efforts as described above. 12. The contractor shall provide the City of Sault Ste. Marie with the proper certificate(s) satisfying necessary insurance requirements with the City being named as an additional insured.
