Specifications include, but are not limited to: Paint boundaries: A red paint boundary surrounds each 20-acre replicate to masticate. Red painted trees should remain undisturbed. A yellow paint line separates each replicate into 10-acre parcels that are masticated in different seasons. The yellow painted trees will be left undisturbed during winter treatments but are required to be masticated on the second entry in the summer each year. Cut Trees and Leave Trees: All stems greater than 1” dbh are required to be masticated, except for trees marked with green paint. The size of the trees vary between sites. Review the age of the treatable area on the attached bid sheet. Leave and protect from damage all oak trees marked in green paint. In blocks where the oak density is high enough, there will be approximately 2 oak clumps left per acre (40 clumps of trees across each 20-ac block). Arrangement: This project involves mastication of 120 acres spread across 6 different sites (20 acres per site). Half of the acres at each site get masticated in the winter and the other half is masticated in the summer (10 acres per site per season). All of the areas designated for treatment are masticated, but only half of the masticated acreage receives follow-up scarification. Scarification occurs in 5-acre blocks in the spring and separate 5-acre blocks in the late summer. See the bid spreadsheet and maps for further details on location of treatments. Bids are entered based on each equipment move during the specified treatment window.
