On behalf of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Parks and Recreation Division (PRD), the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB) is requesting professional architectural and engineering services for a Phase 100 Study and Phase 300 Schematic Design of several mass-timber cabins to be located in Burt Lake State Park and Young State Park. DNR desires to enable people to experience mass timber firsthand. Creating mass-timber cabins will increase exposure of mass-timber technology and give the public an immersive experience. The goal of these mass-timber cabins is to be a demonstration showpiece and an educational tool to showcase advancing mass-timber technology and renewable resources, which combine different industries and DNR programs. If successful, these mass-timber cabins will become a prototype that may be replicated in other state parks. In addition, the DNR anticipates the successful application of mass timber for this project may impact future DNR infrastructure such as contact stations, toilet buildings, and beach houses. This request is to provide Phase 100 Study and Phase 300 Schematic Design only. DNR anticipates, but does not guarantee, that the services awarded to the PSC for this contract will be increased in the future to include additional design and construction administration services.
