The MDHHS will be contracting with Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) to continue its’ non-violent intervention training curriculum for our psychiatric hospital staff. CPI is licensed to teach the six core strategies for reducing seclusion and restraint use© developed and copyrighted by Dr. Huckshorn and the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD). CPI’s proprietary trainings align with MDHHS state hospital administration (SHA) policy and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) conditions of participation. Approximately 2,100 SHA staff are certified in CPI’s non-violent crisis intervention training. Any attempt to transition to a new training curriculum would cause lapses in certifications, significant overtime spend, sacrifice in program fidelity, and risk of losing joint commission accreditation.
