Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. MDOT Bureau of Field Services, Construction Field Services Division intends to purchase one Kontūr AIR 1820 (Mk6 version) ground penetrating radar (GPR) sensor, including Dielectric Mapping software, Examiner PRO user license, various attachments and spare parts, and product training. MDOT has determined the Kontūr system has critical features that are lacking on other manufacturers’ products. The Kontūr system utilizes step frequency to collect information at multiple depths in one pass. The system measures pavement thickness, pavement deterioration, base thickness, voids, delamination; can find utilities; and can measure rebar depth and condition on bridges. The Kontūr system collects information at highway speeds eliminating the need for traffic control. The Kontūr system collects lane-wide data at all depths, generates a data cube of information, and creates a 3D image of the asset. The Kontūr system collects information for dielectric mapping in one pass. Software quickly interprets the data that facilitates instant thickness and density quality control on newly paved roads. The Kontūr Examiner PRO software allows multiple collection passes to be combined and interpreted at once. MDOT has determined that only the Kontūr AIR 1820 GPR sensor system has the unique data collection and reporting features that meet MDOT’s needs. The agency has reviewed other options in the market and found that no other solution is capable of meeting all MDOT’s needs and requirements.
