On behalf of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Parks and Recreation Division (PRD), the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB) is requesting professional architectural and engineering services for the design, bidding, and construction administration of renovations to the existing Hartwick Pines Visitor Center exhibit display space. This request is to provide Phase 400 Preliminary Design, Phase 500 Final Design, Phase 600 Construction Administration / Office, and Phase 700 Construction Administration / Field Inspection Services. This project will be an interior renovation focused on updating the existing lobby and exhibit space and replacing the existing exhibit displays with new. The PSC will design modifications to the building architecture, structure, and infrastructure to support the proposed exhibit design. An existing conference room, existing stairwell to the basement, and the existing exhibits will be removed. The existing exhibit space will be enlarged into the former conference room area. The stairwell floor opening will be infilled, and a new family restroom will be constructed in that location. Selective floor reinforcing may be required to accommodate the new exhibits layout. Some existing walls will require blocking and new drywall to support the new exhibits. New partition walls may be required. All wall and ceiling finishes will be prepped and painted. The existing flooring will be removed, the existing floor will be prepped, and new flooring installed. Plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems will need to be adjusted and improved to accommodate the removal of the conference room/stairs and the introduction of the bathroom and enlarged exhibit space. Existing lighting will be removed and new light fixtures installed in the lobby and exhibit space to accommodate the new exhibit layout. Electrical outlets and power must be added to accommodate the new exhibits layout. Housekeeping lighting will also be required. See the attached floor plans for the project scope area, existing and proposed space layouts. Split Rock is the vendor for exhibit design and fabrication. Split Rock has created an exhibits design package that is already approved by the DNR. Their design includes color selections for paint and carpet in the lobby and exhibit area. The PSC must incorporate Split Rock’s finish selections into the bid documents. The PSC will select the remainder of the required finishes, which must complement Split Rock’s design. Split Rock will provide exhibit fabrication and installation, which the PSC must include as part of the construction bid scope. The PSC must coordinate with Split Rock throughout the project. The PSC will not hire Split Rock as part of this proposal. Split Rock’s design package will be provided to the awarded PSC.
