2.2.1 Mowing a. The Contractor will cut and edge grass at the included locations as often as once a week. The DPW Commissioner or Designee will coordinate mowing frequency with the Contractor, depending on weather and seasonal conditions. b. All litter and debris, including but not limited to sticks, branches, stones, paper, cigarette butts, glass, cans, fecal matter, balls, etc., will be removed from the grass area prior to mowing. c. The mowing height will be three (3) inches throughout the season, unless directed otherwise by the DPW Commissioner or Designee. The City may direct the Contractor to mow at a lower height for the final mowing of the season. d. The Contractor will take care to avoid skips, clumping, scalping, or damage to trees, shrubs, and other park accessories. e. The Contractor will alternate mowing patterns regularly to avoid sags, ruts and tracks in turf areas. f. The Contractor will trim all grass edges during each mowing session, including sidewalks, curbstones, light poles, fences, trees, signs, or any other obstructions found in the lawn area. g. The Contractor will trim grass that is too close to obstructions for a power mower to reach. h. The Contractor will take care not to damage tree trunks or other structures. i. Grass clippings will be bagged and removed by the Contractor for proper disposal as yard waste. j. The Contractor will ensure that mower blades are sharpened at least once per week. The DPW Commissioner or Designee may test the sharpness of the Contractor’s mower blades upon request. k. The Contractor will not fuel equipment on any turf area. l. Irrigation heads damaged by the Contractor will be replaced immediately at the Contractor’s expense. m. The City reserves the right to observe the Contractor’s crew to ensure that their work is satisfactory. The DPW Commissioner or Designee will work with the Contractor as needed to improve work performance.
