Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs (EEA) hereby offers Massachusetts’ municipalities technical assistance to improve their land use practices. Through this announcement, Matthew Beaton, Secretary of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (the Secretary), makes available grant funding to the Commonwealth’s municipalities and Regional Planning Agencies in support of their efforts to plan, regulate (zone), and act to conserve and develop land consistent with the Massachusetts’ Sustainable Development Principles. These Planning Assistance Grants are part of an effort to encourage municipalities to implement land use regulations that are consistent with the Baker Administration’s land conservation and development objectives including reduction of land, energy, and natural resource consumption and provision of sufficient and diverse housing. They also support Governor Baker’s Executive Order 569 which calls for state government to adapt to climate change and build a more resilient Commonwealth by including resiliency criteria in its rating systems and incorporating priority projects identified through EEA’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program. Funds are intended to help communities undertake the public process and retain appropriate technical expertise.
