Specifications include, but are not limited to: This contract will be used to capture, leg band, assess the overall health, and determine levels of contaminants of common loons nesting on DCR lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, including Quabbin Reservoir, Wachusett Reservoir, Paradise Pone, and Hycrest Reservoir. Loons will be captured and processed by capable Biologists with extensive Field experience with the species. Upon capture, basic biological measurements will be obtained. The bird will be fitted with a United States Fish and Wildlife Service aluminum band and unique color band combination that allows for identification of individuals from a distance. Additionally, a blood and feather sample will be taken from each bird to test for blood and mercury. The winning bidder will be responsible for providing capture, processing and banding equipment, as well as ensuring that mercury and lead samples are tested. Lastly, the winning bidder must provide an annual report to be received no later than the end of the calendar year.
