Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Seismic Performance: Provide library stack systems capable of withstanding the effects of earthquake motions determined according to ASCE 7, "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures": Section 9, "Earthquake Loads." Must be laterally braced against seismic forces as required by the applicable building codes. Provide structural calculations to verify compliance to pertinent seismic code provisions. B. All equipment and material to be supplied shall be new and of the highest quality. The material shall be free of defects and shall meet or exceed current engineering and manufacturing best practices for archival shelving. C. Archival storage shelving, systems and furniture: 1. Only all-steel storage shelving and accessories are acceptable for archival storage. 2. Have smooth, non-abrasive finishes that are resistant to chipping. 3. Be free of sharp exposed edges and protrusions, such as exposed nuts and bolts, that are hazardous to staff and collections. D. Archival shelving shall support the weight of records without failure: 1. Be braced and secured to prevent deflection, leaning or collapse when all shelves are full. 2. Shelving supports: adequate to prevent bending or warping when units are full. 3. Specifications for the design and testing of shelving are based on ANSI MH28.2, Shelving Manufacturers Association (SMA).
