Specifications include, but are not limited to: MINIMUM SODIUM CHLORIDE (NACL) CONTENT OF 95% MATERIAL The Sodium Chloride shall conform in all regards to ASTM Standard Designation -D632- 01 "Standard specification for Sodium Chloride" with the following requirements. - Mined Rock Salt and shall be Type A, Grade 1 ANTI-CAKING AGENT FOR BULK SODIUM CHLORIDE All bulk salt shall be uniformly treated with an anti-caking agent prior to delivery to prevent caking while the salt is in outside storage. The Bidder shall furnish a chemical description of the inhibitor treatment used, the quantity used per ton of salt, a laboratory procedure method of determining the uniform presence of the conditioner used and information relative to solubility and photo-decomposic of the treating agent. Potential harm to the environment caused by the inhibitor treatment may be cause for rejection of bid. Salt delivered in a lumpy condition which requires reprocessing to make it usable shall be cause for rejection of the entire delivery with replacement delivery to be made at no additional charge to the buyer. SOLAR SALT ALTERNATIVE In the case of a widespread shortage of Mined Rock Salt, Solar (Sea) Salt may be accepted by any of the participating Towns at the same price as Rock Salt. In this case, at the time of the order, the Chief Procurement Officer for the Berkshire Region Group Purchasing Program (BRGPP) and the Town Highway Superintendents making the orders shall be notified of the situation. The Town shall have the option of accepting the Solar Salt. No vendor shall supply a Town with Solar Salt without their express permission. The Solar Salt shall meet the same physical requirements as the Rock Salt and treated with the proper conditioner in order for its inherently higher moisture content to be controlled (prevent caking.) Any material not received in a free-flowing, usable condition shall be removed at the Contractor’s expense and replaced.
