Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Trees shall be nursery grown and have survived the last two winters in a climate substantially equal to Worcester. 2. The City of Worcester reserves the right to choose which trees will be purchased by walking said nursery and tagging said trees. 3. Tree stock, planting and maintenance must be in accordance with the American Standards for Nursery Stock or meet the minimum appropriate ANSI standards. Measurement of caliper shall be 6” above the finish grade as measured at the digging site at the nursery. A minimum of 50% of the plants furnished under each item shall be in the larger one half specified size ranges. All trees shall be in the 2 to 2.5” caliper range. 4. Trees shall have a single straight leader, not cut back. Trees shall have a symmetrical development, strong healthy branches, no included branch attachments starting from approximately 6’, 0” from grade. Below this point, the bark shall be clean, not scarred, and free from cankers. 5. All plants to be used for this contract shall be inspected by the City of Worcester or it’s designee upon delivery and the City of Worcester shall reserve the right to reject stock deemed sub-standard. The Contractor shall supply the tags with a continuous numbering system to log and track trees and plants stock. All stock shall conform to the American Standards for Nurserymen, Inc. This standard shall be referred to for nomenclature and dimensions of materials called for in this specification. The standards shall determine all requirements of acceptable nursery stock. 6. All plants shall be true to botanical names and standards of size, culture and quality for the highest grades and standards. Plants shall be tagged with the botanical name when delivered to the site. Plants shall be free from disease, injurious insects, mechanical wounds either fresh or healed, broken branches, decay, or any other defects. Special precautions to the root system of each plant shall be taken to avoid any unnecessary injury to and removal of fibrous roots.
