Chassis Inspection and Repairs 1. The chassis, pump area, crew area, hose beds area, the underside of the bac engine compartment, and underside of the fire apparatus body and body interiors, including hose beds, shall be thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Any corrosion shall be repaired and repainted as part of the project. Any significant rot issues shall be brought to the attention of the Fire Chief. All corrosion/rot found at the pre-bid inspection shall be repaired and painted as part of this bid. Any substantial corrosion that cannot be seen until disassembly must be reported to the Fire Chief along with an estimated cost for repair or replacement, which will be done at his discretion. 2. The complete chassis, black structural Breaker bar work and surfaces, crew area/crew walkways, roof, wheel well areas, compartments, axels, frame, and protective pans (removable and permanent) shall be sandblasted, or shell blasted, or needle scaled, inspected, repaired from corrosion and dents, primed and repainted. Any noted significant corrosion/rot should be brought to the attention of the Fire Chief. All corrosion/rot found shall be repaired and painted as part of this project. 3. Any worn or dented protective pans (underside armor) shall be repaired and repainted. 4. Any rot or rust on the Breaker (frame, chassis, body, cabinets, etc.) shall be repaired and repainted. 5. The chassis paint shall be factory-recommended chassis paint; the paint will be black in color and approved by the Fire Chief. 6. Repair or replace any loose or hanging electrical wires. Repairs shall be approved by the Fire Chief. 7. Repair or replace any corroded electrical chases. Repairs shall be approved by the Fire Chief. 8. Wheels shall be painted gloss black to match existing Plymouth Fire Breakers. 9. Fuel cell straps shall be inspected and replaced if needed. 10. Fuel cell inspected and replaced if needed. The fuel cell shall be painted before installation. 11. Booster tank cross-members inspected for corrosion and replaced if needed. New rubber style insulator material shall be installed between the booster tank and cross members/cradle. The insulator material will be industry standard material, NO EXCEPTIONS. Any mechanical feature that may affect the proper and safe driving and handling shall be noted and brought to the attention of the Fire Chief. This information shall be reported prior to the repair(s) and not after completion of the refurb or after the area in question has been repaired/painted. Body Surfaces 1. The front winch tank shall be removed and inspected for rot. If rot is found, the tank shall be repaired or replaced. 2. All diamond plates shall be painted. NOTE: All stepping/walking areas shall be painted with non-skid paint. This paint will be approved by the Fire Chief prior to painting. 3. All body damage and corrosion shall be removed and repaired using an equivalent grade of material. All body corrosion and damage shall be repaired to meet the original manufacturer’s spec at the time of construction and delivery. 4. Remove and replace the frame and ell permanent and removable under-guards (armor) – fame/undercarriage is in poor shape. a. New frame rails and all associated parts must match the current RBM, NO EXCEPTIONS. b. New frame rails and all associated parts must match the current design, NO EXCEPTIONS. c. All hardware shall be replaced. No hardware will be reused, NO EXCEPTIONS. d. All under-guard (armor) shall be replaced with same and painted BLACK on all sides prior to installation. 5. Remove/reinstall poly water tank to fix any rot/rust under/around tank area. 6. Repaint all disturbed areas. 7. Pain 6 (six) existing wheels, all inner and outer, and lug nuts. Wheels to be painted gloss black to match current Plymouth Fire Breakers. This paint will be approved by the Fire Chief prior to painting. 8. Remove, recondition and/or repaint battery boxes. 9. Repair/refabricate all side compartment doors and floor areas that have rot or rust on them. 10. Replace all compartment door gaskets. 11. Replace or recondition all D-Handle door opening mechanical latches as needed. 12. Grip tape shall be applied to the Breaker. Locations and colors to be approved by the Fire Chief. 13. One pint of touch-up paint shall be furnished to match exterior red, gray, black and silver body colors.
