Specifications include, but are not limited to: Built Blades is a division of Chemung Supply Corporation and is a manufacturer of snowplow blades and equipment. Built Blades offers the Sabre line of carbide snowplow blades which have proven to outlast traditional steel cover blades. In 2021, MassDOT installed Sabre cutting edges on snowplows in District 3 in order to perform an extensive test. The test has shown that these blades have needed to be replaced less frequently than other blades in the fleet. These blades have outlasted all of the other options available. Sabre blades also come in 3’ and 4’ sections making for easier, less labor intensive installation. MassDOT is looking to expand the use testing of Sabre blades by purchasing at additional 25 set ups at a cost of approximately $62,000 as indicated in the attached quote. The longevity of the blades along with the ease of installation make them a best value for the Commonwealth. MassDOT would seek to enter into a five (5) year contract agreement with Built Blades to provide future Sabre snow plow cutting blades based off the quote provided. The Department is posting this Notice rather than conducting a full procurement because the Department believes this opportunity represents best value to the Commonwealth and is utilizing this Due Diligence Posting to ensure that the process is open, fair and competitive.
