a) Preparation and Submittal of Project Initiation Form i) The selected designer shall work with the Town to prepare and submit a PIF to MassDOT in order to be recognized as a project eligible for TIP funding. The PIF shall be prepared in support of the Marblehead Rail Trail and Village Street Bridge project included here as appendices. b) Field Observations i) The selected designer shall visit the project area to observe existing conditions and gather information relating to rail trail, Village Street access path, and Bessom Street trail head. c) Topographic Survey – If existing survey is not compliant with MassDOT survey manual and AutoCAD template. d) Review Relevant Planning Context i) The designer should be familiar with all planning documents as previously identified and otherwise noted by the Town. e) Pre-25% Design i) The designer shall undertake all necessary steps to complete the MassDOT pre-25% design process as identified in Chapter 2 of the MassDOT PDDG. The designer shall prepare a 10% design roll plan depicting the preferred alternative for the Marblehead Rail Trail Wye Junction trail segment to facilitate this process in addition to early design review and discussion with the Town and MassDOT. The design shall reflect the design intent of the Town’s Rail Trail concept for the project and shall reflect design considerations previously noted.
