Specifications include, but are not limited to: SAFE MELT® 40/60 (40% organic byproduct performance enhancer/60% calcium chloride brine) liquid deicing agent or approved equal, provided in gallon measurements. A quality controlled byproduct of fermentation and industrial processing of various agricultural base stocks or raw materials, an aqueous solution composed of carbohydrates, proteins and minor compounds obtained from agricultural sources. Solids Concentration: The total solids obtained by drying at 221º F (105º C) shall be not less than 40% and typically should be 50%-60% by weight. These solids should be classified as post consumer waste. Environmental: The material should be biodegradable – not accumulate in soils nor have any detectable effects on ground water. The product should be safe for humans, animals and fish; will not stimulate aquatic plant growth. Corrosivity: The product should be corrosion inhibited i.e. have a lower corrosion index than water and meet the PNS (Pacific Northwest States Coalition) specifications for inhibited de-icers.
