The Contractor shall furnish all equipment, materials, and labor required to perform all operations related to the inspection, cleaning, constructing, and sealing of any asphalt deformation, degradation, and cracks around the Somerville Department of Public Works (DPW) Operations Yard at 1 Franey Rd. Labor shall include inspecting, removing any debris/moisture/vegetation, cleaning of cracks, and sealing cracks/deformities as directed by the DPW Commissioner or Designee, in accordance with all MassDOT specifications and industry standards. Material: Crack sealer shall be a modified asphalt fiber compound designed especially for improving strength and performance of the parent asphalt sealer. Crack sealer materials used under this Contract shall be listed on the MassDOT Qualified Construction Materials List. Materials must meet the requirements of ASTM D6690 and MassDOT’s Standard Specifications (2024 Edition) Subsections M3.05.0 & M3.05.2, including all Material and Testing Requirements outlined in the QCML Criteria for Pavement Crack Sealers. If the specifications detailed below do not align with MassDOT’s Standard Specifications, MassDOT’s Standard Specifications will take precedence. Asphalt binder shall be a blend of performance graded asphalt binder and chemically modified crumb rubber (CMCR) that meet the following specifications: • The SBS and Rubber modified binder shall meet a grade of PG64E-28 with a JnR3.2 < 0.5. • The performance graded asphalt binder utilized in the CMCR shall be a PG58-28 and shall comply with the requirements of M3.01.0: Performance Graded Asphalt Binder. • The modified binder shall contain a minimum of 3% SBS polymer. • The modified binder shall contain a minimum of seven (7)% 80 mesh crumb rubber. • The asphalt binder supplier shall provide testing for the base asphalt binder and modified asphalt binder in accordance with AASHTO M 320 and M 332.
