Specifications include, but are not limited to:The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife (MassWildlife) is soliciting bids to conduct important habitat restoration work on approximately 30 acres at the Herman Covey Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Belchertown, Massachusetts. Treatments to be conducted under this request include remowing/mulching of tree re-sprout and shrubby areas. The principal habitat objectives of this project are to reclaim shrubland areas and to mow tree resprouts in an area that had a selective timber harvest approximately 10 years ago. Mowing of shrubs and understory trees removes saplings of undesired tree species, stimulates a strong shrub response from blueberry, scrub oak and other desired shrub species, helps lower the height of invasive plants to facilitate subsequent foliar herbicide applications, and prepares the area for future prescribed burning activities.
