The following Project Description is provided as a guide for estimated quantities. The work listed may not include all work required or materials needed at a specific location. It is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all work necessary to complete the contract. Refer to drawings and typical sections for clarification (attached to this document). The awarded Contractor will be given the reasonably necessary number of copies of approved Contract Drawings, Detail Sheets, Addenda and Specifications. One copy of all such information and a copy of the Specifications shall be available on the work site for reference at all times during the prosecution of the work. The Contractor shall have at all times a competent and reliable superintendent or foreman on the work site, authorized to receive orders and to act for the Contractor. The construction work proposed with this project consists of the reclaiming, reconstruction, and repaving at the Amity Street and University Drive intersection in Amherst, MA. The work includes realigning the four approach roads, removing the existing traffic signals and constructing a new roundabout and sidewalk at the intersection (see plans for complete demolition and reconstruction information). The reconstruction includes intersection/roadway reconstruction and new granite curb. Raised splitter islands with beveled granite curb and colored, stamped concrete islands are proposed at the four approach roads to the roundabout. Mountable granite curb is required for the truck apron in the center of the roundabout. The truck apron and portions of the approach islands will be HMA with a Texturized Decorative Pavement system called TrafficPatternsXD manufactured by Ennis-Flint in an inlaid running bond brick thermoplastic pattern (the TrafficPatternsXD material shall be supplied and applied only by an Ennis-Flint TrafficScapes™ Certified Applicator.). New sidewalks and crosswalks will be installed to meet existing sidewalks and multi-use paths. Crosswalks will include new rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB’s). Utility work proposed with this project includes replacement of an existing 24” CMP stormwater drain line with a 30” diameter RCP drain line and outfall. Some of the existing catch basins will be converted to drain manholes and new catch basins will be added to accommodate the new roadway geometry. Once roadway paving work has been completed the contractor will also be responsible for suppling and installing all new street signage and new roadway markings. All areas disturbed during the construction process will need to be reloamed and seeded. Permitting for work within the buffer zone of wetland areas was obtained for this project from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the local Amherst Conservation Commission. Siltation controls will be required as shown on the plans and described in the attached Order of Condtions (Appendix B) . The full Order of Conditions, Decision and Special Conditions are attached to this bid document in the Appendix.
