Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) is requesting laboratory services to conduct alpha spectroscopy analysis on soil samples collected as part of a uranium and thorium contamination investigation. Two separate samples will be collected from approximately 50 locations involved in the investigation and approximately 5 background locations. One sample from each location will be submitted to the laboratory for alpha spectroscopy analysis of radionuclides in the Uranium-238 decay chain; specifically, U-238, U-234, and Th-230. The second sample from each location will be submitted for alpha spectroscopy analysis of radionuclides in the Thorium-232 decay chain; specifically, Th-232 and Th-228. The total number of samples expected to be analyzed for this project is approximately 110. Laboratory services required: Sample receipt/chain of custody documentation provided to IEMA-OHS Sample analysis – alpha spectroscopy analysis to determine the concentration of radionuclides discussed above. Analytical report and/or certificate of analysis provided to IEMA-OHS Quality Control documentation provided to IEMA-OHS Disposal of residual sample materials
