Specifications include, but are not limited to: i. Treat surfaces that are glossy, chalky, mildewed, or rusty so that the surface can receive new paint. Acceptable methods of preparation include Solvent Cleaning (SSPC-SP1), Hand Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP2), or Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP3). Mildewed surfaces should be cleaned by using a solution of 1 part bleach to 3 parts water. Apply the solution and scrub the affected area. Allow the solution to remain on the surface for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly, and allow the surface to dry before applying paint. ii. Remove switch plates, hardware, and fixtures; replace after painting is completed. iii. Remove loose paint by scraping, sanding, or wire brushing. iv. Ensure that surfaces to be painted are clean, dull, dry, and in sound condition before coatings are applied. Refer to the manufacturers Product Data Sheet or technical department for specific guidelines. v. Fill holes, cracks, and damaged areas in walls as needed.
