The Town of North Beach invites qualified contractors to submit bids for the removal and replacement of existing flower boxes located along the Town’s bike path. The project will enhance the aesthetics and safety of the bike path corridor and support the Town’s beautification initiatives. There is a total of 31 flower boxes along the path. Boxes #21, #22, and #23 have already been repaired, leaving 28 boxes requiring replacement under this contract. The work will include demolition, removal, disposal, and installation of new timber flower boxes in accordance with the specifications below. The contractor is responsible for the following tasks: 1. Remove and dispose of all existing 6" x 6" timbers. 2. Remove and dispose of all existing landscape fabric. 3. Install new 6 oz. non-woven geotextile landscape fabric, wrapping existing earth material prior to timber installation. 4. Replace all existing timbers with new #1 Marine Grade 6" x 6" (actual: 5 ½” x 5 ½”) timbers. 5. Anchor new timbers to the ground with ½” rebar, driven to a minimum buried depth of 12 inches, placed every 24 inches on center. 6. Secure timbers together using 9" Headloc-type fasteners, installed at 24-inch centers per row. 7. Perform any necessary excavation or backfilling to complete work. 8. Provide traffic control as required to complete the project safely. 3. Existing Irrigation and Plantings The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to protect existing irrigation systems, sprinklers, flowers, trees, shrubs, and other plantings located within or adjacent to the work area during the removal and replacement of the flower boxes. All such systems and plantings shall remain intact and undisturbed. Should any irrigation components or plantings be damaged, removed, or otherwise impaired as a result of the Contractor’s operations, it shall be the Contractor’s responsibility to repair or replace them at no additional cost to the Town. Replacement plant materials shall be of the same species, size, and quality as the original unless otherwise approved in writing by the Town.
