The Division of Fire and Rescue Services (DFRS) is seeking to enhance its community-based healthcare services by contracting with a qualified medical care practice to provide an Advanced Practiced Provider (APP), such as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. This initiative aims to improve access to primary care, reduce unnecessary emergency department visits, and offer specialized medical interventions for certain low-acuity emergencies. The Advanced Practice Provider will work with the Community Outreach and Support Team (COAST) Program. The COAST program serves as a dedicated resource within Frederick County aimed at linking individuals experiencing a substance use disorder, or addiction, to available treatment and recovery resources within the community. The COAST Program excels at providing person-centered care, meeting people where they are at. Staff are compassionate and non-judgmental and provide an experience that is meaningful and mutually respectful. DFRS is committed to supporting individuals experiencing opioid withdrawal by offering the initial dose of buprenorphine at no cost to medically eligible patients. COAST program members collaborate closely with patients, ensuring a seamless transition to local treatment programs or doctor’s offices with same or next-day appointments. The County has allotted $167,915 in grant funds for year 1 of this project.
