The LDTS is a State-owned property located in Township 2, Range 9 North of Waldo Patent (T2 R9 NWP) and the Towns of Woodville and Chester in Penobscot County, Maine (see figure below, only the section not covered by the x) DVEM proposes to construct, operate, and maintain new multi-purpose machine gun (MPMG), automatic record fire plus (ARF+), a grenade launcher (GLR) ranges, a hand grenade qualification course (HGQC), and a range operations and control support facilities in the western portion of the LDTS. DVEM proposes to operate these new ranges intermittently throughout the calendar year. In addition, DVEM proposes to increase the usage of the existing light demolition range (LDR) and 25-meter small arms ranges to year-round operation. Key biologic impacts from this development would include approximately 320 acres of forest clearing and permanent conversion to facilities and large expanses of meadow/wet meadow habitats, training noise, and the direct and indirect effects of munitions impacts.
