The project consists of the demolition and clean-up of an abandoned building, herein referred to as the “Alert Building”, that was formerly known as “Building 610” at the historical Dow Air Force Base and that was used as an aircraft pilot living quarters and aircraft rapid response facility, which is now known asthe BGR. The Alert Building has been identified as a hazard due to wildlife habitat and the potential for avian strikes. The Alert Building is located on an approximate 1.31- acre portion of the BGR property, in the southern section of the airport, and south of an unused taxiway and aircraft stands (see drawings included as Appendix A). The main project components include: 1. Site building and foundation demolition, including removal and disposal of all demolition debris including those impacted with hazardous building materials such as asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), lead (related to painted building materials), universal and other regulated wastes, and mold. 2. Removal and disposal of abandoned underground fuel lines, formerly used to supply heating oil to the building’s boiler room, and surrounding impacted soils (if identified). 3. Removal and disposal of standing water accumulated in the building’s sub-basement boiler room. 4. Backfill of the building foundation excavation and Site restoration.
