Specifications include, but are not limited to: The LSU AgCenter is in need of a new system for the filling, sealing, and printing of semen cryopreservation straws. The system will be for the bulk-quantity packaging of sperm of aquatic organisms prior to cryopreservation of the samples for storage or distribution. The system must include the following specifications: • The system must utilize 133-mm long industry standard semen straws (also known as French straws) that contain a plug on one end that seals upon contact with liquid. • The system must automatically fill the straws until the gel seal is activated, seal the opposite end with heat or ultrasound, and then print sample information directly onto the straw. • Must be adaptable to 0.25-ml and 0.5-ml straws. • Standard operation must be capable of selecting to process 1, 2, 3, or 4 straws per cycle. • Must be capable of filling a minimum of 15,000 straws per hour. • Must have access to important system components without the use of tools, e.g. replacement of the transport belts. • End user must be able to clean and maintain equipment through the assistance of user manuals which must be provided. • Must have touchscreen with integrated control panel for adjustments, control functions, and troubleshooting. • Must have Microsoft Access database connectivity. • Must have the ability to transfer data from and to the system by network and ODBC driver. • Must be able to process complete samples by means of automatic detection of remaining sample volume which will automatically stop of the filling unit when no more sample remains. • Must have replaceable sample injection nozzles mounted in blocks with magnetic holders.
