Specifications include, but are not limited to: The NOCPIA recently engaged a team of design professionals and researchers to explore how City Park might be utilized for managing stormwater and mitigating flooding in the surrounding neighborhoods. The resulting New Orleans City Park: Water Opportunities (2014) study identified a number of potential strategies, including the following: - Diverting stormwater from existing grey infrastructure outlets in surrounding neighborhoods into City Park; - Installing new weirs and/or repairing existing weirs throughout City Park in order to allow for greater control of water levels and increase drainage capacity; - Dredging parts of the existing City Park waterway system in order to increase drainage capacity and improve stormwater flow; - Increasing City Park waterway system connectivity and stabilizing/modifying waterway system banks in order to facilitate increased stormwater flow; and - Constructing wetland areas and bioswales in and around the park order to temporarily retain additional stormwater.
