REQUIREMENTS: General; Product ID 52031 – 50' L (+/- 1') x 9' Dia. (+/- 8") Converted Tank Car; Product ID 56750 – 62' L (+/- 1') x 9' Dia. (+/- 8") Converted Tank Car; Converted tank car culvert must be constructed of ½" +/- 1/8" thick 36ksi grade steel. Construction; All tank car ends, plumbing and/or valves must be removed and remaining edges must be smoothed to remove all burs and/or rough edges. Culvert must be free of cracks and punctures and the interior must be free of all protrusions and/or baffles. Ends are allotted a ½" tolerance from square and the corners must be rounded smooth. All pre-formed holes/man holes must be welded closed with ½" +/- 1/8" thick 36ksi grade steel or higher. Welds must be continuous, neither tack welds nor partial welds will be allowed. When a cover plate is oversized for the hole being covered, a filet weld should be used. If the plate is made to fit within the hole, a groove or butt weld should be used. Tank culverts must meet or exceed the material and cross drain requirements ofthe 2016 Louisiana Roads and Bridges Specification Book, Section 1007.11. 1007.11 BLACK AND GALVANIZED WELDED AND SEAMLESS STEEL PIPE. Steel pipe for ordinary uses shall comply with ASTM A53. At the discretion of the Department, a sample of the steel may be requested by LADOTD District/Section fabrication group to run a chemical analysis test for verification of compliance with the noted section(s) of the 2016 Louisiana Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges.
