Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. KP-4 1. Provide KP-4 Winter Asphalt Mix that is a plant-mixed material, suitable for stockpiling, consisting of aggregate and KP-4 Winter Mix liquid asphalt as specified herein. 2. The Kentucky Transportation Department’s 2019 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction will apply in all instances unless specifically modified herein. 3. Ensure the liquid asphalt conforms to Subsection 806.08. 4. Ensure that the KP-4 Winter Mix liquid asphalt is capable of coating wet aggregates without stripping and provides satisfactory workability and adherence characteristics for producing KP-4 Winter Asphalt Mix. 5. Completely blend the KP-4 Winter Mix liquid asphalt under the supervision of authorized quality control personnel. Do not introduce any additives, modifiers, or extra ingredients into the KP-4 Winter Mix liquid asphalt at any time after shipping it from the terminal. 6. Coarse aggregate - provide coarse aggregates conforming to Section 805. 7. Fine aggregate - provide fine aggregates conforming to Section 804. 8. Ensure the amount of KP-4 Winter Mix liquid asphalt used in the mixture fully coats the aggregate particles. Typically, use asphalt content in the range of 5.0 to 7.0 percent by weight of the mixture, with a starting point of 5.5 percent. The amount required will depend on the aggregate gradation, absorption, and texture. 9. Provide a paved stockpile pad or an established material base of KP-4 Winter Asphalt Mix on which to stockpile the freshly mixed KP-4 Winter Asphalt Mix. Use this pad or material base only for stockpiling KP-4 Winter Asphalt Mix during the contract period. 10. The Winter Asphalt Mix shall not strip, be capable of storage for at least six months prior to being used, and be readily workable at all ambient temperatures above 25°F. Any material that strips or is not workable for the required time shall be replaced at no cost to the BTRC. 11. At no cost to the BTRC, ensure a technical representative from the producer of the KP-4 Winter Mix liquid asphalt is present during production of the KP-4 Winter Asphalt Mix. B. KP-6 1. Provide KP-6 Winter Asphalt Mix that is a plant-mixed material, suitable for stockpiling, consisting of aggregate and KP-6 Winter Mix liquid asphalt as specified herein. The Buffalo Trace Road Commission will utilize KP-6 Winter Asphalt Mix for patching during cold and damp weather on either asphalt or concrete pavement. 2. The Kentucky Transportation Department’s 2019 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction will apply in all instances unless specifically modified herein. 3. Ensure that the KP-6 Winter Mix liquid asphalt furnished under this specification is capable of coating wet aggregates without stripping and provides satisfactory workability and adherence characteristics for producing KP-6 Winter Asphalt Mix.
