The Commonwealth of Kentucky, KYEM USAR require Personal Protective Equipment and equipment for emergency search and rescue operations in swift water/flood environments. Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) is a multi-discipline that involves the location, extrication, and initial medical stabilization of victims trapped or missing because of a man-made or natural disaster. While a tornado, hurricane, or other significant weather event is often the cause, victims can also be trapped by events such as winter storms, mine or bridge collapses, dam failures, wide area flooding, or other significant event. These events can occur in rural areas, suburban areas, or in densely populated urban areas. Since these types of catastrophic events can quickly overwhelm first responders, it is critical that USAR highly trained personnel have the equipment necessary to deal with the unique challenges presented by man-made or natural disaster(s). The loader and attachments must perform efficiently in urban disaster zones, including debris-laden environments, confined spaces, uneven terrain, and areas of limited access. The equipment must be able to handle rough and challenging terrain, including loose soil, rubble and asphalt.
