Specifications include, but are not limited to: Improving drainage from multiple open and collapsed portals which are contributing to flooding problems which impact several residences owned by the Hatfield family. The site is located in Ransom, KY on Hwy. 1056, at and around #16 Hillcrest Drive (37° 34’ 04”; 82° 11’ 08”. Traveling from the Pikeville area, it can be reached following Hwy. 119 to the intersection with Hwy. 319 near Hardy. Continue south on Hwy. 319 to a right onto HWY. 1056 and proceeding about one mile across a concrete bridge. The residences are on the left. Multiple, collapsed or mostly collapsed and heavily draining portals, from two coal seams at elevation 1075 feet and at 1150 feet. Drainage from the upper coal seam portals will be collected into a subdrain. The water in the subdrain will be collected into HDPE pipe with subdrain collar, and drained into a junction box. Water will drain from the junction box into another pipe until it enters another modified subdrain that collects water from additional portals at roughly the 1,015 foot elevation. Water from the subdrain and pipe will flow into a rectangular gabion ditch, and end at a gabion check from which the water enters into existing drainage. Additional class II will be placed as necessary near and around the gabion ditch anchor to create a stilling pool. A temporary silt trap is planned to be placed in the concrete block channel prior to its draining into the stream.
