Specifications include, but are not limited to: This project is composed of two sites. Work at the Dunn Site involves the permanent closure of four abandoned mine portals in the immediate vicinity of a residence. One is located approximately 15’ directly above the residential house-seat. In order to prevent any influence by mine-related drainage upon the stability of the residence and its immediate surroundings, a subdrain will be placed between the residence and the abandoned underground mine openings. Collected water will be directed to an established drainway. Work at the Stacy Site involves to permanent closure of two abandoned underground mine adits directly opposite KY 205 from the VanCleve Volunteer Fire Department. These openings are located within the highway right-of-way, and present a hazard to anyone walking along the roadside shoulder. Excess earthen material resulting from the installation of drainage controls will be placed on a remnant contour mine bench alongside Blue Jay Drive between the Dunn Site and KY 3193. Construction of this project may potentially result in the cutting of trees measuring over 3” diameter at breast-height (dbh) while accessing the mine portals at the Dunn Site and during preparation of the Waste Earth Fill Area, but will not result in the direct disturbance of any area streams. Other than the transient disturbance at the mouths of the portals, work at the project site will not disturb any caves or cave-like habitats. A Highway Encroachment Permit is required for work on the two portals at the Stacy Site, and has been applied for. Revegetation of all disturbed areas will utilize the standard AML Reclamation Seed Mix, except for disturbances within the residential yard of the Dunn Site, which will receive the standard AML Residential Seed Mix
