Specifications include, but are not limited to: The design and construction of a playground for the Kentucky School for the Deaf. The playground is to include accessible play structures and other play features that encourage an inclusive play environment. The playground will be surfaced with safety surfaces including a pour in place system to allow for children of all physical abilities to move throughout the playground. This new playground is designed to provide dedicated play space for the Kentucky School for the population. By providing the school with an inclusive play environment, the School will be able to encourage greater interaction between students with different physical abilities, encourage group play and problem solving, and provide a fun safe location for children to play. The proposed site is located between the existing Kerr Hall and Thomas Gym. The new playground is designed to be open, allowing faculty and children to see across the playground and interact with other hearing-impaired individuals. The site gently slopes to the south towards existing storm infrastructure. Minimal grading will be required to install the playground and safety surface system.
