Specifications include, but are not limited to: Mechanical/electrical security devices and/or physical improvements to the building or grounds that would contribute directly to the overall security and safety of the elderly housing complex. The RIDEA administers the Elderly Housing Security Program to ensure the safety andsecurity of residents in sites designated by the federal government as housing for the elderlyin Rhode Island. Pursuant to RI General Law 42-66.1, Rhode Island Security for the ElderlyAct (the "Act"), RIDEA has established a grant program to assist in providing security atpublic and private housing complexes in the State of Rhode Island.The population in the designated housing sites has changed, as has the nature of thecommunities in which they are located. Fire departments and police departments note anincrease in security-related problems at many sites. Current areas of recommendation mayinclude: increased security surveillance, improved recording equipment and VCRs,improved entrance security devices, and increased management and staff training onsecurity topics.
