Work Specifications All buildings and structures shall be torn down in accordance with the best practices of the trade; all local ordinances and regulations concerning such work; and the Kentucky Building Code. All fences, walls, sheds, garages, blacktop, foundation, and other encumbrances upon or within the lot shall be removed by the contractor as directed by the City of Ashland. Any resulting holes, excavations, or other hazards to the public shall be removed by the contractor, except as specified by the City of Ashland, before the work will be considered complete. Removal of such items shall be included in the lump sum bid for the demolition of the structure(s). The use of explosives to perform the work under this specification is strictly prohibited. Additionally, the City of Ashland assumes no responsibility for the condition of the existing buildings and structures. All property lines, fences, walls, or other items jointly-owned with the adjacent property owners shall remain in place unless otherwise directed. All walls, foundations, footings, supports, and masonry shall be removed to the surface elevation of adjoining ground unless otherwise specified by the City of Ashland. Concrete slabs, retaining walls, driveways, stairs, handrails, sidewalks (between street sidewalk and house), garages, outbuildings, sheds, carports, tires, tanks, pipe, wire, blacktop, etc. shall be removed unless otherwise specified by the City of Ashland. Basement walls abutting sidewalks, streets, and alleys may remain in place in order to prevent the undermining of the sidewalks, streets, and alleys. Basement or cellar floors shall be broken up sufficiently to permit proper drainage. Remaining basements shall be filled to the ground level with noncombustible materials. Construction or fill shall not be started until the area has been inspected and approved by the City of Ashland or its authorized representative. Fill material shall be Dense Graded Aggregate (DGA) and shall be free from frost, stumps, trees, roots, and muck. Fill material shall not be placed on muddy or frozen ground and such fill shall be thoroughly compacted. Fill material in the top twelve (12) inches shall be of earth. The entire surface shall be brought to rough grade within a tolerance of three (3) inches, more or less, unless otherwise indicated by the City of Ashland. The entire site shall be left in a rake clean condition. The contractor shall enact erosion control measures, such as grass seed and straw, silt fence, etc., as deemed necessary by the City of Ashland’s Department of Engineering. Hollow spaces under sidewalks shall be filled if exposed, and any openings or damage to sidewalks shall be replaced with concrete to City of Ashland specifications.
