Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Document Destruction: Printed paper media shall be rendered into small, unreadable and unreconstructible pieces which are mixed, compressed and secured until disposed. All materials shall be classified as mixed paper without the need to remove staples and paper clips. Limited amounts of plastics and metal may be added to the paper in the consoles or bins. Plastics include binders, CD’s, tapes and disks. Metal includes staples, binders and clips. 2. Certification: At a minimum, certification by National Association for Information Destruction, Inc. (NAID) is required for all base servicing locations, whether corporately-owned and operated, or whether operating as a franchisee. NAID certified companies operate under a strict code of ethics and NAID conducts annual and random audits to ensure that certified members are in compliance with industry best practice, and legal and ethical standards. Certification means that the Contractor has passed an audit by security professionals possessing Certified Protection Professional accreditation through the American Society for Industrial Security. A lapse of NAID certification during the term of the contract resulting from his bid shall be cause for vendor removal from contract. 3. Mobile and Off Site Services: The preference of many agencies is for mobile, on-site shredding. However, award for off-site shredding may also be given.
