Specifications include, but are not limited to: 2.001 CHASSIS The chassis provided will be a new, tilt-type custom fire apparatus. The chassis will be manufactured in the apparatus body builder's facility, eliminating any split responsibility. The chassis will be designed and manufactured for heavy-duty service, with adequate strength and capacity for the intended load to be sustained and the type of service required. 2.002 GENERAL CONSTRUCTION The apparatus will be designed with due consideration to distribution of load between the front and rear axles. Weight balance and distribution will be in accordance with the recommendations of the National Fire Protection Association. 2.003 WHEELBASE The wheelbase of the vehicle will be no greater than 230”. 2.004 GVW RATING The gross vehicle weight rating will be a minimum of 66,000 lbs. 2.005 FRAME The chassis frame will be built with two steel channels bolted to five cross members or more, depending on other options of the apparatus. The side rails will have a 13 3/8” tall web over the front and mid sections of the chassis, with a continuous smooth taper to 10 ¼” over the rear axle. The frame rails will be constructed of 120,000 psi yield strength heat-treated 3/8” thick steel with 3 ½” wide flanges. 2.006 FRAME REINFORCEMENT In addition, a mainframe inverted "L" liner will be provided. It will be heat-treated steel measuring 12” x 3” x ¼”. The frame liner will be mounted inside of the chassis frame rail and extend the full length of the frame. 2.007 FRONT NON DRIVE AXLE The front axle will be of the fully independent suspension design with a ground rating of 22,500 lb. The turning angle will be 45°. 2.008 FRONT SUSPENSION Front fully independent suspension will be provided with a minimum ground rating of 22,500 lb. 2.009 FRONT SHOCK ABSORBERS Heavy-duty telescoping shock absorbers will be provided on the front suspension. 2.010 FRONT OIL SEALS Oil seals with viewing window will be provided on the front axle. 2.011 FRONT TIRES AND WHEELS Front tires will be 425/65R22.50 radials, 20 ply highway tread, rated for the apparatus front axle rating maximum axle load and 75 mph maximum speed. The tires will be mounted on 22½” x 12¼” steel disc type wheels with a ten-stud, 11¼” bolt circle. Wheels to be painted black.
