The City provides solid waste disposal services for refuse collected from the citizens and business of Independence, Kansas. The successful firm shall demonstrate the necessary qualifications, facilities, equipment, staffing, and financial resources to provide a method of disposal of solid waste without interruption, along with the reliability to provide the required services. The City collects approximately 6,000 tons/year of municipal solid waste and is seeking to obtain a long-term contract for landfill disposal services or transportation and landfill disposal services. The City invites proposals from landfill operators to provide the services in a cost-effective manner, however, any option that the City considers must collect and dispose of the waste in an economically viable and legal manner. The City welcomes multiple proposals from any operator and will consider innovative options including any financing assistance that the operators might want to provide to the City for meeting its basic waste collection function, i.e. landfill operator providing extra equipment for the City during the life of the contract.
