Specifications include, but are not limited to: 6.1. Concrete Mixtures, General 6.1.1 Concrete shall consist of a mixture of Portland Cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, water and admixtures so proportioned and mixed as to produce a plastic, workable mixture suitable for the specific condition of the placement. The work shall be performed in accordance with these specifications. 6.1.2 All materials used for producing concrete must be KDOT approved. 6.1.3 Batch plant used for producing ready mix concrete must be state DOT approved. 6.1.4 Minimum compressive strength: 4000psi @ 28 days. 6.1.5 Water-Cement Ratio: 0.48 maximum 6.1.6 Slump: 4 ± 1 inch, prior to adding high-range water reducer. 6.1.7 Air Content: 6.0 ± 2.0% at the point of delivery. 6.2 Concrete Materials 6.2.1 Cementitious Materials: Use the following cementitious materials, of the same type, brand, and source throughout project. 6.2.1.1 Portland Cement: ASTM C 150, Type I, Type II, or Type I/II. 564 lbs. per cubic yard, minimum. 6.2.1.2 Supplementary Cementitious Materials: none permitted. 6.2.1.3 Normal-Weight Aggregates: ASTM C 33, graded, 1-inch nominal maximum coarse aggregate size. 6.2.1.4 Water: Potable, or meeting ASTM C1602. 6.3 Admixtures 6.3.1 Air-Entraining Admixture: ASTM C 260. 6.3.2 Chemical Admixtures: Provide admixtures certified by manufacturer to be compatible with other admixtures and that will not contribute water-soluble chloride ions exceeding those permitted in hardened concrete. i. Water-Reducing Admixture: ASTM C 494/C 494M, Type A. ii. Retarding Admixture: ASTM C 494/C 494M, Type B. iii. Water-Reducing and Retarding Admixture: ASTM C 494/C 494M, Type D. iv.
