This project consists of parking lot repaving. Repaving consists of a uniform 2” milling of the existing asphalt surface followed by a 2” HMA overlay. The project is located within the Kansas Dept. of Transportation Area 4 and Gage Subarea Crew yard located at 101 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS. All work for this project shall be performed in a professional and workmanlike manner and be in accordance with the 2015 Kansas Department of Transportation Specifications and latest special provisions active on the date the project is awarded. This is a MEASURED QUANTITY project. Final payment will be adjusted to reflect measured quantities of the bid items listed at the end of this specification. All work shall follow the “2015 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction” as amended by current special provisions and these general notes below. All work shall be performed Monday through Friday. Night work will not be allowed. Millings and waste excavation will become property of the contractor and disposed of off-site. All asphalt material shall be commercial grade “Class A” asphalt suitable for the intended application. Asphalt placed shall use PG Grade 70-28 binder. KDOT may test the mix during construction to ensure that specifications are met including the binder grade. Tack will be considered subsidiary to other items in the contract. AREA 1 – work consists of repaving of the parking lot areas shown in “Attachment 1-2” and includes: Milling – mill a nominal 2” of existing asphalt pavement making adjustments as necessary to preserve or restore positive drainage. Care should be taken to protect concrete aprons, sidewalks and adjacent fencing or structures. Surfaces must be broomed and cleaned thoroughly prior to placement of the HMA overlay. This work will be measured and paid for by the square yard as “Milling”. HMA Overlay – Place a nominal 2” overlay on all milled areas making thickness adjustments as necessary to preserve or restore positive drainage. Asphalt tack is required on the milled surface prior to placement of the overlay. This work will be measured by the delivery ticket ton with deducts for material returned to the plant. This work will be paid for by the total tons of asphalt incorporated into the project as “HMA-Commercial Grade (Class A).
