Bid Item: Plant Mix Bituminous Mixture – Commercial Grade (Maintenance)(Hot Mix/Cold Lay) Units: Ton The Specifications for the Hot mix/Cold lay are as follows: • Plant Mix, Bituminous Mixture-Commercial Grade. Oil content shall be computed using the spreadsheet from the district 2 Materials lab for bidding and production purposes. Contact Aaron Burd (785-823-3754) to receive a copy. The contractor shall furnish KDOT District 2 Construction & Materials Engineer with the proposed mix design and receive approval for production prior to producing any material. Required minimum film thickness = 7.0. • The material and mix design shall be in accordance with Special Provision No. 15-PS0009 of the 2015 KDOT Standard Specifications. Only CMS-1 Emulsified asphalt will be used in the mix and shall be in accordance with section 1203 of the 2015 KDOT Standard Specifications. • The aggregate gradation shall be in accordance with the BM-1 designation in table 1 of Spec. Prov. No. 15- PS0009. The aggregate shall be suitably coated with asphalt and the mix shall be cohesive and workable as to be suitable for its intended purpose of patching potholes and overlaying short areas of the highway. It should be able to be placed with either a laydown machine or a motor grader. • It is preferred that the mixes not be stockpiled at the vendor’s facility prior to delivery. If the contractor feels that this is needed, a location will need to be inspected and approved by the Area Engineer prior to production. • Payment will be based on the tons of acceptable material delivered. • The Area Superintendent shall be contacted prior to deliver to set up a delivery schedule and to inspect the initial production for potential needed adjustments. • All deliveries shall be made to arrive at the destinations at a satisfactory time for unloading during regular working hours between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm Monday through Friday, except holidays. • All Material shall be delivered before the end of June 2025. (or within 45 days of the contract being awarded if later than May 15, 2025).
