Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Hot-applied crack sealant to be in accordance with attached Section 1501 of the 2015 KDOT Standard Specifications. 2. Asphalt rubber crack sealant to be in accordance with attached Specification No.TS 117.1, dated 10/17/03. This specification covers sealants of the hot-pour type intended for use in sealing joints in concrete pavement and cracks in both concrete and asphalt pavements. The sealant is a single component, homogenous blend of elastomers and other agents as are needed to result in a product capable of effectively sealing pavement joints or cracks from water intrusion. It must retain adhesion and flexibility during extremes of expansion and contraction of the crack through a temperature range of 0o F to 140o F. Heat and apply the material according to manufacturer’s recommendations 2.1 The material must contain a minimum of 18% recycled rubber by weight of asphaltic components. 2.2 The material must comply with ASTM D6690 with the following exceptions and additions: 2.2.1 Bond: When tested at -20o F to 50% extension for 3 cycles, the material exhibits no cracking, separation, or other opening that at any point is over 0.25 inches deep in the sealer or between the sealer and the mortar block. At least 2 test specimens in a set of 3 representing a given sample must comply with this requirement. 2.2.2 Flow: 5 mm maximum. 2.2.3 Cone Penetration, 77o F: 50-90. 2.2.4 Resilience, 77o F: 25-60%. 2.2.5 Flexibility, -20o F, 1”, 90 degrees, 10 sec.: Pass. 2.3 The material must be capable of a minimum 12-hour pot life at application temperature and of being re-heatable at least once (in a normal field application) without experiencing changes in application characteristics, polymer and oil separation, balling or any other signs of gelling. 2.4 Package the material in pails or boxes clearly marked with recommended pouring temperature, maximum heating temperature, shelf life if appropriate, and batch number. Lots from the same manufacturer may be commingled during application. DO NOT commingle materials from different manufacturers.
