Insulated bipolar forceps are specialized surgical instruments used in electrosurgery to coagulate tissue and control bleeding. They are designed with insulation to prevent electrical current from passing through the forceps and causing unintended damage to surrounding tissues. The insulation ensures that the electrical current is confined to the tips of the forceps, providing precise control during surgery. Unlike monopolar instruments, bipolar forceps use two tips to complete the electrical circuit, which allows for more localized and controlled coagulation. The University of Iowa currently utilizes the reusable forceps and cords manufactured by Kirwan Surgical Products, Inc. These forceps must be compatible with the organization’s universal medical generators
